A multiple Emmy award-winning journalist, Matt Smith is an experienced anchor, field anchor and political reporter. A Minnesota native, Matt spent seven years in Packers territory before calling Indianapolis home. His reporting has taken him across the country, from the White House to interview President Obama, to the heart of presidential politics in Iowa and the depths of the frozen tundra at Lambeau Field.
Matt’s investigative reporting has been honored with numerous awards, including from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. He spent weeks at Wisconsin’s state capitol covering tens-of-thousands of protestors rallying against collective bargaining changes. His investigation into the impact of a proposed open-pit mine in Northern Wisconsin earned him an Emmy along with capturing the historic beauty of ice caves formed along Lake Superior’s shoreline.
Matt’s appeared multiple times on ABC World News Tonight, and his exclusive political interviews have received national attention, from the Washington Post to FOX News and MSNBC.
With two little girls at home, you’ll always find Matt with a cup of coffee and still trying to be an avid runner! In Green Bay, Matt laced up his dancing shoes to earn a judge’s choice award as a star dancer in a local Dancing with Our Stars competition, which raised tens-of-thousands of dollars for the American Red Cross. He spent five months in ballroom dance lessons to perform the waltz and merengue in front of more than 800 people.
Before coming to CBS4, Matt worked at WBAY-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin and KBJR-TV in Duluth, Minnesota.
